Australia’s white-ball squad is getting a forced makeover. Ahead of their challenging ODI series against Bangladesh in Dhaka, the visitors will be without two of their most explosive batters: Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh.
Head has been granted personal leave and will miss both the ODI and T20I legs of the tour. Marsh, on the other hand, is still nursing an ankle injury. While the powerhouse all-rounder misses the 50-over games, he is expected to link up with the squad later to prepare for the T20Is.
With veterans like Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood already resting, interim captain Josh Inglis finds himself leading a highly inexperienced, yet exciting, roster into notoriously tough sub-continent conditions.
Squad Shuffle & Fresh Faces
The absences have opened the door for Australia's rising stars to prove their worth on turning tracks:
-
Oliver Peake & Matt Short: Both have been retained after impressing during the low-scoring Pakistan series. The 19-year-old Peake, in particular, showed immense maturity with the bat.
-
Todd Murphy: The bespectacled Test off-spinner gets his white-ball opportunity, stepping in for leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha, who suffered a hamstring injury in Lahore.
-
Pace Additions: Ben Dwarshuis and Xavier Bartlett join the attack, replacing Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake.
Inglis isn't shying away from the daunting task ahead. He has actively challenged his younger players to embrace the trial by fire, noting that learning to combat intense spin and reverse swing in Dhaka is the ultimate test for any Australian cricketer.
The action kicks off on June 9, and the cricket world will be watching closely to see if Australia’s next generation can conquer the Bangladesh heat.
