Jamaica Empress will make its debut alongside the established franchises that have carried the tournament since its launch: Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and Trinbago Knight Riders.
The 2026 edition is scheduled to run from 5 to 17 September, with every fixture hosted in Barbados. Organisers have confirmed a single round-robin phase in which each side meets the other three once. The league leader at the end of that stage earns a direct place in the championship match. The second- and third-placed teams will contest a knockout playoff, with the survivor advancing to face the table-toppers in the final.
Barbados Royals enter the season as reigning champions and will aim to extend a remarkable run of success. The franchise has lifted the trophy in each of the past three years — 2023, 2024, and 2025 — and a fourth consecutive title would further cement its place at the top of the women's Caribbean T20 landscape. Trinbago Knight Riders, meanwhile, hold the honour of winning the opening season in 2022 and remain one of the competition's most recognisable brands.
League officials have framed the 2026 expansion as the first step in a broader growth strategy. In a recent statement, the WCPL indicated that future seasons could bring larger structural changes, including interest in welcoming franchises from beyond the Caribbean. Plans for 2027 are already being discussed, with the long-term goal of positioning the tournament as a genuinely international women's T20 league.
